Shed Plans
Choose Your Shed Plans Carefully
While shed plans can vary greatly and have multiple outcomes none is more common and convenient than those that are geared towards wooden shed plans. This is because wood is a universal and readily available construction material and comes in a multitude of textures and colors for the discerning homeowner. Shed plans structured around a wooden basis are of particular importance to the home builder. DIY shed plans are broken down into small chunks and deal with a material that nearly everyone is familiar with and has some inclination of how to use.
Sheds that are constructed by the backyard novice take on a whole new dynamic of “modern art.” They may be very eclectic in nature and composition but are often not very sturdy and unacceptable for their intended use. That is why wooden shed plans are important. If you need a truly functional shed and not an art object then you really need a good set of plans.
What are some of the things to look for in selecting DIY plans for your shed project? First how complete are they? That is, do they cover all of the basics from construction of a floor base to applying roofing material? Is there a materials list that you can utilize for costing purposes? Are there diagrams and/or pictures to allow you to visualize what the finished structure will look like.
Often plans will have just a two or three “view” layout without an elevation drawing to provide the insight as to what you are getting. Sometimes just having the elevation picture allows you to reject certain plans as not meeting your needs and expectations. Also many shed plans come without any kind of materials list which can hamper the DIY’er from acquiring the proper amount of material. Many trips to the hardware store to pick up another little bit of material can become very annoying over time.

Another aspect to look for in choosing a set of plans for your wooden shed is do the plans step you through the construction process. It is often found that some shed plans only provide the drawings and do not provide any instruction as to what order things are to be done. If you are a novice DIY’er then this becomes very important. As funny as it may sound there have been people who have built the roof before the foundation base because that is the way the plans read. Not what you want to do.
Even those plans dedicated to the beginning DIY’er are useful for the more experienced or professional builder. No matter what your level of experience or competence you will find the “just right” set of shed plans here. Just select the features you want and start looking. What you need is here and ready for you to start to work.
